The Russian defense ministry announced on Sunday that Russia’s air defense systems had shot down 36 drones that Ukraine had launched overnight, targeting various areas of Russia’s southwest.
The defense ministry said on the Telegram messaging app that fifteen drones were destroyed over the Kursk region, which borders Ukraine, and nine over the Lipetsk region, which is located several hundred kilometers south of Moscow.
In southern Russia, four drones were destroyed over the Voronezh and Bryansk regions, and two over the neighboring Oryol and Belgorod regions.
The governors of Bryansk and Lipetsk regions declared on their Telegram channels that the attacks did not cause significant damage or casualties.
Russian officials frequently withhold information about the complete scope of the harm caused by Ukrainian assaults.
The reports could not be independently confirmed by Reuters. Ukraine did not immediately respond.
Since the beginning of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in 2022, Kyiv has stated that assaults on Moscow’s military, transportation, and energy infrastructure constitute retaliation for Moscow’s attacks on Ukrainian territory.
