Padma River Water Surpasses the Danger Level, Overflowing Low-lying Areas

Due to water from the Jamuna River and drainage from upstream, the Padma River in Rajbari and Faridpur has reached a level over the danger mark at the Goalanda Point. The river has swollen over the past two days, flooding several additional areas in the region.

Executive engineer Partha Pratim Saha of the Faridpur Water Development Board stated that the Padma has risen 7 cm in the last 24 hours and is currently running 7.97 cm above the danger limit.

The Padma has overflowed over the previous two days, flooding low-lying regions in nine unions across four Upazilas in Faridpur. Goalanda Upazila in Rajbari has also seen low-lying areas flooded.

In these places, the crops have flooded. Commuting is challenging for the people who live in the Char regions and along the riverbanks. Because paddy, nut, sesame, and jute fields are flooded, farmers are suffering losses.

Executive officers and public representatives at the Upazilas near the riverbanks in Faridpur district have been instructed by the district administration to stay vigilant regarding the flood scenario.

The majority of the cropland in Tuhin Mondol’s Char Madhabdia Union in Faridpur Sadar Upazila has been inundated due to the rise in the Padma River’s water level. For fear of their land being flooded, a lot of farmers are attempting to harvest jute.

Furthermore, he stated that the fields of nuts and sesame have been fully submerged.

Water from the Jamuna River and runoff from upstream sources, according to WDB Executive Engineer Saha, started to rise in the area.

He stated that although the water level may continue to increase for a few more days, flooding will not seriously harm anyone besides those who reside on riverbanks and in Char areas.
