Floods Claim 18 Lives, Leave Over 9.4 Lakh Homeless in 11 Districts

The office of the Chief Adviser reports that approximately 9,44,548 individuals are still stuck in 11 districts as a result of continuous flash floods brought on by upstream water. 

A news release issued by the CA office stated that the floods had also affected 49,38,159 people from 587 unions under 77 upazilas in Feni, Cumilla, Chattogram, Khagrachhari, Noakhali, Moulvibazar, Habiganj, Brahmanbaria, Sylhet, Lakshmipur, and Cox’s Bazar. 

The statement stated that a total of eighteen persons had perished in the floods: five in Chattogram, four in Cumilla, three in Noakhali and Cox’s Bazar, and one in each of Feni, Brahmanbaria, and Lakshmipur. 

The afflicted population has been accommodated at 3,527 shelter centers, which have housed 2,84,888 people and 21,695 cattle in total.

Twenty-150 metric tons of rice, 15,000 food packets, and Tk 3.52 crore have been awarded as relief by the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief.

The districts of Feni, Noakhali, Chattogram, Brahmanbaria, Cumilla, Habiganj, and Lakshmipur have seen rescue activities by the army, navy, coast guard, Fire Service and Civil Defense, students, and Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB). 

In Feni, medical services are being provided by field hospitals that have been established, in conjunction with army physicians and the district civil surgeon’s office. 

To keep an eye on the situation, the adviser and secretary in charge of the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief have visited the areas impacted by the flooding. The ministry’s adviser is presently in Feni.

To enable mobile communication again, the Feni Deputy Commissioner’s office has installed a Very Small Aperture Terminal (VSAT).
