American Shot Dead at West Bank Demo Amid Israeli Forces’ Gunfire

In the occupied West Bank village of Beita, where the army admitted firing first, a Turkish-American lady was shot and killed on Friday while participating in a demonstration against Israeli settlements.

The woman was named as Aysenur Ezgi Eygi by Turkey, which also denounced her death. Meanwhile, the US labeled the incident “tragic” and urged its ally Israel to look into it.

Eygi was “shot in the head” by Israeli soldiers, according to the UN rights office, and an AFP photographer witnessed paramedics carrying her into a hospital in Nablus with her head covered in bandages.

Eygi, 26, was reportedly taking part in a “peaceful anti-settlement protest” in Beita, where there are weekly protests, according to the UN.

Around 490,000 people reside in Israeli settlements in the West Bank, which are prohibited by international law.

Far-right Israeli ministers support the Eviatar settlement outpost, which looks above Beita. In recent years, protesters have flocked to the surrounding hillside, where Israeli troops have killed several Palestinians.

Rafidia hospital director Fouad Nafaa reported that Eygi arrived “with a gunshot in the head” at the hospital and was later declared dead.

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan denounced the Israeli action as “barbaric” and Turkey said she was slain by “Israeli occupation soldiers”.

The principal ally of Israel According to Washington, it “reached out to the government” for further details.

The terrible death of an American citizen deeply disturbs us, according to White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre.

The “Israeli occupation’s assassination” of Eygi was denounced as a “heinous crime” by Qatar, a major negotiator in the peace negotiations that put an end to the Gaza war.

“The silence of the international community in the face of these horrific violations is a renewed incentive for the occupation to commit more atrocities,” a foreign ministry statement stated.
