Tomorrow, the National Board of Revenue (NBR) will activate its online site for filing tax returns. This will enable individual taxpayers to submit their digital income tax returns, wealth statements, and other taxes for the fiscal year 2024–2025.
NBR Spokesperson Syed A Momen stated, “We have upgraded our server so that it can accommodate higher numbers of users and we can offer them smooth services round the clock.”
Individual taxpayers will be able to create their tax returns and either submit them online or print them out for manual submission, according to the tax administration. They can use cards, mobile financial services, or internet banking to pay their taxes.
Returns of filed taxes will be acknowledged, and tax payment certificates will be sent to the taxpayer. Also, they will have the option to register for TIN certificates and taxpayer identification numbers (TINs).
The National Bureau of Revenue (NBR) stated that the electronic system will enable taxpayers to obtain copies of their prior years’ electronically filed tax returns.
In order to register, taxpayers were required to have mobile phone numbers that were validated by biometrics.
Since the introduction of the electronic filing system in 2021, the tax authorities reported, taxpayers have demonstrated a growing interest in filing their income tax returns.
According to NBR data, 5.26 lakh taxpayers filed online returns in 2023–2024—more than twice as many as the 2.44 lakh e-returns filed the year before.
The NBR received 61,491 online tax returns in 2021–2022.
Out of the over one crore taxpayers in Bangladesh that are registered, fifty-nine percent did not file their income tax returns for the fiscal year 2023–2024.
According to the NBR, starting tomorrow, individual taxpayers will be able to register online and submit their tax returns for the 2024–2025 year.
