Yunus: Hasina Should Be Extradited If Found Guilty of Crimes

Chief Adviser Prof. Muhammad Yunus believes that extradition of Sheikh Hasina, the former prime minister who is currently in hiding in India, is necessary if she has committed crimes.

“Why shouldn’t she? When asked whether Hasina should be extradited, he responded, “If she has committed crimes, she should be extradited and brought to justice,” during his speech at the New York Times Climate Forward summit on Wednesday.

Right now, he’s in New York for the UN General Assembly.

People questioned Prof. Yunus, the current head of the temporary administration, about his intentions to run for office.

In response, he asked, “Do I look like someone who would run?” in the negative.

Yunus stated that he was unsure of when elections would take place in Bangladesh. In the coming months, the nation will schedule elections following the expected delivery of reform recommendations from a number of established commissions.

According to Muhammad Yunus, the Paris Agreement—a global agreement to mitigate the effects of climate change—won’t be effective as long as the world maintains its current economic structure.

He claimed that the system’s main goals are to maximise profits, enrich a small number of people, and produce a tremendous deal of waste.

“The economic system we have built is key to the destruction of this planet,” Yunus stated. According to him, mankind has established a “self-destructive civilisation.”

The Nobel laureate and pioneer of microfinance asserted that any changes to the agreement would be insignificant until they redesigned the world’s fundamental systems.

He believes that developing countries like Bangladesh shouldn’t have to foot the bill for the climate damage their more developed counterparts cause.

“Why should we carry the burden of all the destruction that you put on us?” said Yunus. “You are the cause; we are the result.”

He continued by saying that it is the duty of individuals to reduce waste production and their reliance on fossil fuels.
