Kyiv Reports Russian Attacks on Medical Centre in Ukraine’s Sumy, Killing 9

According to Ukrainian officials, Russian forces struck again on Saturday morning, hitting a medical center in Sumy, northeastern Ukraine, killing nine people and injuring twenty more.

38 employees and 86 patients were present at the hospital at the time of the attacks, according to Ukrainian prosecutors.

“On Telegram, Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko stated that the initial assault resulted in one fatality and caused damage to the ceilings of multiple hospital floors.”

According to him, the Russians launched another attack while people were being evacuated, killing five more.

The State Emergency Service of Ukraine’s Facebook post reported the deaths of nine people, including a national police officer, and the injuries of twenty more.

“When discussing this war with anyone in the world, pay attention to where Russia is hitting.” Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy stated on Telegram that “they are fighting hospitals, civilian objects, and people’s lives.”

Only force will be able to bring Russia to peace. There is only one proper way to achieve peace: by force.”

Klymenko did not specify the type of weapons used in the attacks on Saturday, despite the air forces and regional government’s claims that drones carried out the strike.

Following Ukrainian forces’ August operation in Russia’s Kursk region, during which they captured numerous settlements, attacks on Sumy city and the Sumy region have increased significantly.

Russian forces, who began a full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, have targeted Sumy City with guided bombs and drone attacks due to its proximity to the Russian border, which is only 32 km (20 miles) away.

Following an overnight Russian attack that involved two ballistic and two cruise missiles, the Ukrainian air force earlier on Saturday claimed to have downed 69 out of 73 drones.

The military administration in Kyiv reported that air defenses in the city and its surroundings shot down about fifteen Russian attack drones.
