4 Girls Run Over by Microbus Killed in Kushtia

Four girls have died after a microbus struck them while they were returning from a Maktab, or religious learning centre, in Khoksa, Kushtia.

On Sunday, around 6:30 a.m., the accident occurred at Shimulia Kuthipara on the Kushtia-Rajbari regional highway. An Nur Zayed, the chief of Khoksa Police Station, reported that another girl sustained injuries in the collision.

We identified the deceased as Sumaiya Tanzila, 12, Juthi, 11, and Maria, 11. Hanif Mondal also identified Meem, 11, his daughter. They were all natives to Shimulia Kuthipara.

The hospital received a 10-year-old girl named Fatema after she sustained injuries.

Iqbal Hasan, the doctor at the emergency department, reported that Kushtia General Hospital received at least five children injured in a car accident. He stated that they admitted one child to the hospital for treatment, and pronounced the other four dead.

A black microbus from Rajbari heading towards Kushtia struck the girls as they were walking home from their Arabic lessons at the mosque, according to local witness Khokon.

The driver lost control of the microbus for an unknown reason, causing it to veer both left and right of the path. The children were crossing the road on the left side when the vehicle struck them due to its rapid speed.

The microbus, he claimed, crashed into a pond by the side of the road after striking the kids.

Outraged by what had happened, the community organized a roadside protest. OC Zayed stated that the community had summoned police to uphold order.

He said the driver had escaped, but the police had taken possession of the microbus.
