Axios reported on Sunday that two US and two Israeli officials confirmed that Israel had given the US a document last week detailing its demands for a diplomatic solution to end the war in Lebanon.
An Israeli official told Axios that Israel has demanded permission for the IDF forces to engage in “active enforcement” to stop Hezbollah from rearming and re-building its military facilities close to the border.
The report also stated that Israel needed its air force to have unrestricted access to Lebanese airspace.
The international community and Lebanon would not likely accept Israel’s demands, a U.S. official told Axios.
It was not possible to get in touch with the White House outside of regular business hours. The US State Department did not immediately respond to an inquiry.
The Washington embassies of Israel and Lebanon did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
The report states that Amos Hochstein, the White House’s special envoy, will visit Beirut on Monday to discuss a diplomatic solution to the conflict.
