A high-voltage power line in Sreepur struck a picnic bus carrying three students from the Islamic University of Technology, or IUT, in Gazipur, resulting in their deaths.
The incident, which happened in Udaykhali village near a nearby Chinese factory at around 10:30 am on Saturday, left at least ten other people hurt, according to Joynal Abedin Mandal, chief of Sreepur Police Station.
The dead were identified as Mozammel Hossain Nayeem, 24, Mostakim Rahman Mahin, 22, and Zubayer Alam Saqib, 22, all third-year mechanical engineering students of IUT located in Gazipur’s Board Bazar area.
We have not yet verified the victims’ identities.
According to 70-year-old local Afsar Uddin, 460 IUT students used six double-decker buses and three microbuses to travel to the Matir Maya Eco Resort in Uttar Pelaid village for a picnic. The buses were using a rural road to get to the resort from the Dhaka-Mymensingh Highway.
Tragic events occurred when one of the buses collided with a high-voltage line that ran alongside the road after arriving in Udaykhali village. He asserted that three pupils instantly perished due to electrocution.
He added that some of the injured had sustained injuries to their hands, faces, or legs, while others had suffered severe burns.
According to witnesses Zakir Hossain, Rubel Mia, and Shamim Ahmed, five of the buses arrived at the resort without incident. But the final bus struck the high-voltage line, electrocuting the whole thing. As students screamed for assistance, smoke began to rise from the bus.
When they arrived on the scene, three students had tried to get off the bus but had fallen. Witnesses removed the students’ bodies from the bus using sticks made of dry bamboo.
“As soon as the bus was electrified, we called the power office to cut the electricity.” In order to avoid more casualties, they immediately cut the queue,” one of the witnesses stated.
The Khandaker The line carried 11,000 volts of electricity, according to Mahmudul Hasan, deputy general manager of Mymensingh Palli Bidyut Samity-2.
“The accident happened when the double-decker bus touched the high-voltage line after tilting slightly while yielding to another vehicle,” he said.
OC Joynal reported that the wounded received medical care at Mymensingh Medical College Hospital.
The hospital’s deputy director, Dr. Zakiul Islam, stated, “Three students were taken to the emergency room dead.” We are still verifying the precise number of injured.
