Thirteen Dead as Naval Vessel Collides with Passenger Boat Off Mumbai

Following a collision with an Indian Navy vessel on Wednesday, a boat carrying over 100 passengers overturned off the coast of Mumbai, the country’s financial center, killing at least 13 people, according to officials.

The navy reported that 99 people had been rescued and that more were being sought.

An Indian Navy vessel experienced an engine failure that caused it to lose control while conducting engine trials in Mumbai Harbor. The boat consequently struck a passenger ferry, which then overturned,” the Navy said in a statement on X.

Local television stations reported that the collision between the passenger car and a boat carrying at least five people caused the accident.

The speedboat struck our boat, causing water to enter and making it capsize. A passenger on board the ship told the ABP Majha news channel, “The driver asked us to wear lifejackets.”

“I swam for fifteen minutes before another boat rescued me,” the unnamed passenger admitted.
