In Brazil, a crowded bus struck a truck early on Saturday and caught fire, killing over thirty people, according to the fire department.
Following the completion of the victims’ removal from a major highway close to Teofilo Otoni, Minas Gerais, the state fire department estimated that between 32 and 35 people, including at least one child, had died.
The condition of the bodies, which were completely burned, makes it difficult to determine the precise death toll.
The department said in a statement that the Civil Police’s forensic work would probably be necessary for confirmation.
Witness testimony yielded conflicting reports, necessitating a forensic investigation to determine the accident’s cause.
The bus, which was carrying 45 people, had a tire blowout, according to firefighters, which caused the driver to lose control and crash into an oncoming truck on the BR-116 federal highway. This highway is a vital link between Brazil’s impoverished northeast and its heavily populated southeast.
Nevertheless, the fire department stated that witnesses also stated that a granite block the truck was transporting came loose, fell onto the road, and caused the collision with the bus.
“Only the forensic investigation will confirm the true version,” said the statement.
After leaving São Paulo, the bus traveled to the state of Bahia.
According to a report from firefighters, the bus wreck saved 13 people. Three people survived the collision after their car collided with the truck and became trapped underneath it.
