In Yemen’s capital, Sanaa, the US military reported carrying out precision airstrikes on Saturday against a missile storage facility and a command-and-control center run by the Houthis, who are backed by Iran.
The strikes were intended to “disrupt and degrade Houthi operations, such as attacks against US Navy warships and merchant vessels in the Southern Red Sea, Bab al-Mandeb, and Gulf of Aden,” according to a statement from the US military’s Central Command.
Additionally, the US military claimed to have hit an anti-ship cruise missile and several Houthi one-way drones over the Red Sea.
The strike on Saturday came after US planes attacked a Houthi command and control center, which controls a large portion of Yemen, in a similar manner last week.
Israel threatened additional attacks against the Houthi, which has fired hundreds of missiles at Israel in the past year, and launched strikes on ports and energy infrastructure in Houthi-held areas of Yemen on Thursday.
Declaring solidarity with Palestinians in Israel’s year-long war in Gaza, the Iran-backed group in Yemen has been attacking commercial shipping in the Red Sea for over a year in an attempt to impose a naval blockade on Israel.
