BNP Leader Abdus Salam Pintu Released from Jail After 17 Years

Abdus Salam Pintu, a former deputy education minister and vice chairman of the BNP Central Executive Committee, was released from prison after serving 17 years.

At 11:04 a.m., Pintu, who was found guilty of a grenade attack on August 21 and given a death sentence, left Kashimpur Central Jail Part 2.

After the HC’s acquittal order document arrived at the prison and the legal and verification procedures were finished, the BNP leader was freed, Senior Jail Superintendent of Kashimpur Central Jail-2 Al Mamun told The Daily Star.

His relatives were waiting for them at the jail gate.

The HC cleared all those found guilty in two cases involving the gruesome August 21, 2004, grenade attack on December 1.

A special court found all of the accused in the case guilty and handed down verdicts on October 11, 2018, with Abdus Salam Pintu among the 19 who received death sentences.
