Bangladeshi Man Shot Dead by Alleged Indian Khasi in Sylhet Border Area

In the Gowainghat Upazila of Sylhet, close to the border, an Indian Khasi citizen shot and killed a Bangladeshi man, according to Border Guard Bangladesh.
Around one in the morning on Saturday, BGB-48 Battalion Commander Lt Col Md Hafizur Rahman confirmed in a press release that the incident occurred on Friday evening, 200 yards inside India, in the Pillar 1261 area of the Damdamiya border in Bichanakandi Union of the Upazila.

22-year-old Sobuj Mia, a native of the union’s Pahartali village, was identified as the victim.

He was involved in the smuggling of cows from India, according to the locals.

According to the BGB, Sobuj and a few others entered India and crossed onto Khasi territory. They got into a fight, and a Khasi Indian citizen shot at them with a pellet gun. They shot Sobuj.

A tip-off led a BGB patrol team to the Pillar 1261 area. The BGB was eventually notified by Sobuj’s family that he had been absent since the afternoon. It was discovered later that night that Sobuj had been transported through the jungle by his associates to Bangladesh. After that, the family notified the BGB that they had located his body. Additionally, they informed the police about the situation.

“The BGB company commander level has submitted a letter of protest calling for the Indian citizen to be brought to justice immediately,” Lt Col Rahman said in a press release.

In the Jaintapur Upazila of Sylhet, in the Minatila border area, Khasi people shot and killed a teenager named Maruf Ahmed earlier on Thursday.

Maruf was from the Upazila village of Kendri Jhingabari.

In a 24-hour period, two Bangladeshis have been shot dead by Indian Khasi citizens.
