European Union member states expanded their sanctions on Venezuela on Friday, adding 15 more individuals from the National Electoral Council, the judiciary, and the security forces to their list.
This brings the total number of individuals in Venezuela under EU sanctions to 69. The sanctions include an asset freeze and a travel ban within the EU.
President Nicolas Maduro and his government have consistently denounced sanctions imposed by the United States and other nations, describing them as illegitimate actions amounting to an “economic war” aimed at crippling Venezuela.
Despite this, Maduro and his allies have praised what they claim to be the country’s resilience in the face of such measures, though they have also frequently attributed certain economic hardships and shortages to the sanctions.
