King Charles to Visit Poland for Auschwitz Commemorations

Britain’s King Charles is set to visit Poland later this month to participate in the 80th-anniversary commemorations of the liberation of Auschwitz, the largest Nazi death camp during World War II.

In a statement released on Monday, Buckingham Palace confirmed that Charles will attend a memorial service on January 27 at the Auschwitz-Birkenau Museum and Memorial in Poland, which preserves the site of the camp established by Nazi Germany on Polish soil.

Over 1.1 million people, primarily Jews, died at the camp, either in gas chambers or from starvation, cold, and disease.

Before the ceremony, Charles is scheduled to meet with local community members in Krakow and with Poland’s President Andrzej Duda, according to Buckingham Palace. This will be Charles’ fifth visit to Poland.
