Police have detained former National Board of Revenue (NBR) officer Motiur Rahman, who gained attention due to a goat scandal, along with his wife.
Motiur was arrested on Tuesday night from the Bashundhara Residential Area, according to Dhaka Metropolitan Police Deputy Commissioner (Media and Public Relations) Muhammed Talebur Rahman.
The police confirmed that both Motiur and his wife, former Upazila chairman Laila Kaniz, were apprehended by the detective branch. However, the police statement did not clarify the specific case for which they were arrested.
The controversy began when a man named Mushfiqur Rahman Ifat went viral on social media after posting about buying a goat for Eid-ul-Azha at a price of Tk 1.5 million. This sparked speculation about the source of his income due to the lavish expenditure. In his posts, Ifat identified Motiur as his father, leading to increased scrutiny of the former tax official for potential corruption.
