Lutfozzaman Babar, the former state minister for home affairs under the BNP-Jamaat alliance government, has been released after spending 17 years in prison.
Deputy Jailer Jannatul Ferdous confirmed that Babar was released from the Dhaka Central Jail in Keraniganj on Thursday afternoon.
“The former state minister for home affairs was released from prison around 1:45 pm as there were no remaining charges against him,” she said.
Babar was acquitted on Tuesday from his life imprisonment sentence in the much-discussed 10-truck arms smuggling case.
