Election Commission to Attend DC Conference

The Election Commission (EC) will participate in a session at the Deputy Commissioner’s (DC) Conference ahead of the 13th parliamentary election.

Mohammad Ashraful Alam, an aide to the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC), stated, “The CEC, the election commissioners, and the EC secretary will attend a program on the evening of February 18, the final day of the DC conference, to be held at Osmani Memorial Auditorium.”

EC officials mentioned that the commission typically meets with field-level officers before elections. This will be the first time the Election Commission is participating in the DC conference.

Several changes have been introduced for the three-day conference starting Sunday, including the cancellation of the presidential session.

The deputy commissioners (DCs) are expected to arrive at the venue on Saturday, the day before the conference begins, for registration and other preparations. In the afternoon, the Cabinet Division will provide a briefing on overall preparations.

This year’s DC conference will feature 34 working sessions.

Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus will inaugurate the conference on February 16 at 10:30 am at Shapla Hall, where he is scheduled to engage in an open discussion with the DCs.

An evening meeting with the Bangladesh Administrative Service Association and the Chief Advisor will also take place.

On the second day, the DCs will meet the Supreme Court Chief Justice during the working sessions. In the evening, they will attend a reception at the Supreme Court premises, hosted by the Chief Justice.

Mohammad Khaled Rahim, additional secretary of the district and field administration wing of the Cabinet Division, shared that the agency has received a total of 1,245 proposals from divisional commissioners and DCs for the conference.

Of these, 353 proposals have been included in the conference schedule for discussion.

According to the Cabinet Division’s progress report, 381 decisions were made at last year’s DC conference, including 119 short-term, 192 medium-term, and 70 long-term decisions.

So far, approximately 64% of short-term decisions, 40% of medium-term decisions, and 36% of long-term decisions have been implemented.
