Abdullah Al Noman, vice chairman of the central BNP, former minister, and freedom fighter, has passed away at the age of 83.
He died at his residence in Dhaka’s Dhanmondi around 6 am on Tuesday, confirmed his personal assistant, Nurul Azim Hiru.
Noman is survived by his wife, a son, and a daughter. According to Hiru, he had been battling age-related health issues for a long time.
Details regarding his funeral prayer and burial are yet to be finalized. Hiru mentioned that, based on decisions from both the family and the party, Noman’s body would be taken to Chattogram.
Throughout his political career, Noman held several key positions within the BNP, including vice chairman of the central committee, president of the BNP’s Chattogram metropolitan unit, and organizing secretary for the Chattogram Division.
He served as minister in several BNP-led governments, heading the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock, the Ministry of Labour and Employment, and the Ministry of Forest and Environment.
Born in Gahira village of Chattogram’s Raozan, Noman was actively involved in student politics through the Students Union. He also took part in the 1971 Liberation War and was elected as a member of parliament from Chattogram-9 (Kotwali).
