Twice World Cup champion Steve Smith confirmed his retirement from one-day international cricket on Wednesday, following Australia’s semi-final loss at the Champions Trophy.
The 35-year-old, who top-scored for Australia with 73 runs in their four-wicket defeat to India in Dubai on Tuesday, expressed that he would remain available for selection in Twenty20 internationals and Test matches.
“Now is a great opportunity for people to start preparing for the 2027 World Cup, so it feels like the right time to step aside,” Smith said in a statement from Cricket Australia.
