Bangladesh Submarine Cables PLC (BSCPLC) posted a rise in profits for the January–March quarter of fiscal year 2024-25 (FY25).
The state-owned company recorded an 8 percent year-on-year increase in profit, reaching Tk 43.58 crore for the quarter.
According to a disclosure published today on the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) website, the company’s diluted earnings per share (EPS) stood at Tk 2.33, up from Tk 2.16 during the same period last year.
Following the announcement, BSCPLC’s share price rose by 0.16 percent to Tk 122.3 as of 11:46 am on the DSE.
However, for the nine-month period from July 2024 to March 2025, the company’s EPS dropped to Tk 6.83 compared to Tk 8.99 during the corresponding period of the previous fiscal year.
Net operating cash flow per share (NOCFPS) also declined to Tk 7.83 during the first three quarters of the current fiscal year, down from Tk 14.06 a year ago.
BSCPLC attributed the decrease in NOCFPS to reduced revenue and dues collection from customers, as well as increased expenses compared to the previous year.
The company also noted that on September 17, 2024, it issued 2.21 crore new shares to the government’s Post and Telecommunication Division as equity.
As of March 31, 2025, BSCPLC’s shareholding structure shows the government holding 76.94 percent of shares, institutional investors 15.02 percent, foreign investors 2.07 percent, and general investors 5.97 percent.
Since 2008, the state-run entity has managed Bangladesh’s submarine cable operations. Initially connected to the SMW4 optical fibre submarine communication cable system and later to SMW5, the company currently provides approximately 7,220 Gbps of bandwidth.
BSCPLC is also progressing on its third undersea cable project, SMW6, which is currently 77 percent complete and expected to add another 13,200 Gbps of capacity by the end of 2025, according to information available on its website.
