Nurul Haque Nur Urges Prioritisation of National Interest in Reform Implementation

Gono Odhikar Parishad President Nurul Haque Nur has called on the interim government to implement the reform proposals that have been agreed upon.

He said, “The reform proposals that were finalised through discussions must be implemented under the current government at any cost.”

Nur made these remarks during his opening speech at a dialogue with the National Consensus Commission, held at the LD Hall of the National Parliament on Monday.

He further stated, “We must all be committed, and if necessary, use force to ensure the implementation of effective reform proposals for the greater national interest. In pursuing reforms, we urge the commission to put national interests above individuals, political parties, and communities.”

Nur also noted that over the past 16 years, people from all socio-economic backgrounds participated in the movement against fascism. “Many joined protests while remaining in their respective places. However, the political situation at that time did not allow us or them to act beyond that, even if we wanted to,” he said.

He added, “Through the mass uprising in July, we have now created a new political context.”

Nur expressed hope that the dialogue with the National Consensus Commission would pave the way for drafting an “important chapter” in Bangladesh’s progress.
