Metropolis Report-
In order to include the Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering (NAME) graduates in the recruitment of Bangladesh Water Development Board, measures will be taken to amend the Act 2013 – a decision was taken on 1st November 2022 in a meeting held under the chairmanship of Mr. Kabir bin Anwar, Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Water Resources.
To highlight the rationale of these issues, Dr. Reaz Hasan Khondoker, the President of the Association of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers, Bangladesh, said, “NAME started its journey first at BUET in 1973 and at MIST in 2013. At present, there are 55 seats for NAME graduates at BUET and 40 at MIST. Gradually it is getting introduced in other technological universities as well. Though there are job opportunities for the NAME graduates in the private sector, the opportunities are quite limited in government and autonomous organizations of the country.”
He also added, “Although a large organization like the Bangladesh Water Development Board recruits a large number of engineers, there is no opportunity yet for the dredger and dredging operation specialized NAME graduates. With the appointment of this skilled manpower, the efficiency and pace of the organization’s work will increase, and employment opportunities will be created as well.”
