Metropolis Report-
101 yaba peddlers in Cox’s Bazar were all given prison terms of one year and six months and fines of Tk 20,000 apiece. Among them were four brothers of former MP Abdur Rahman Bodi.
The Drug dealers were imprisoned despite the state’s inability to prove their guilt because they all admitted their crimes, noted Cox’s Bazar District and Sessions Judge Mohammad Ismail as he delivered the judgment on Wednesday (23 November).
One hundred and one persons were detained due to drug and arms cases.
The judge said, “Even though the accused in both cases should be exonerated owing to a lack of evidence, doing so would be detrimental to society. Due to their own admissions of being yaba dealers and ‘godfathers,’ they were jailed in the drugs case despite being cleared in the arms case.”
The judge stated that those who are involved in the drug trade should learn from the verdict.
