Metropolis Report-
Today, a portion of the Dhaka University unit of Nirapad Sarak Chai (We Demand Safe Roads) conducted a protest march in response to the death of a woman who was struck by a private vehicle on the DU campus yesterday and dragged for approximately one kilometer.
Around 11:00 am, they organized a rally on campus outside Raju Bhashkarja, where they called for a safe campus and harsh punishment for Azhar Jafar Shah, a former assistant professor in the DU department of international relations who was driving at the time of the accident.
The organization’s DU unit convener, Rifat Jahan Shaon, stated, “As large trucks pass through the campus, we have a sense of unease. Even in the library, we can hear the roar of these automobiles. We repeatedly requested that big vehicles not be driven across the campus, but the authorities paid no attention.”
To make their demands heard, some DU students will begin a sit-in in front of the vice chancellor’s house at 2:00 pm.
