Azhar Zafar Shah, a former assistant professor of International Relations at Dhaka University, who dragged a woman under his car to death, died on Friday (13 January).
“After falling ill at the prison on Friday at about 3 pm, he was sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. But after some time, the physician declared him dead,” DMCH police said.
On 2 December, Zafar’s car hit a bike from behind at Dhaka University. Rubina Akter was returning home on her brother-in-law’s bike. Hit by the car, she fell from the bike and got stuck under the bumper of his car.
According to the victim’s brother-in-law, the vehicle did not stop and dragged the woman several hundred yards. Later, people there stopped the vehicle and hurried Rubina Akter to the hospital, where she later died from her wounds.
After the family of Rubina Akter filed a complaint against him over the incident, he was subsequently detained by the police.
