A minor schoolboy was killed allegedly by five teenagers in Shibganj Upazila, Bogura, on Sunday. Police detained the five teenagers in connection with the killing.
The deceased is Abu Hurairah, 10, son of Manzurul Islam of the Dokkhin Koribari village of Syedpur Union.
A murder case is under process at Shibganj police station till Monday afternoon. Earlier, the body of the teenager was recovered by the police from a bamboo plantation in Bariyahat village of Syedpur union of the upazila in the early hours of the same day.
According to the police and local sources, Abu Huraira was not returning home though a long time had passed, even with school classes being over on Sunday. The family started searching for him. At one point, they saw Huraira’s bicycle in a shop of Dakumara Haat in the upazila. Huraira’s relatives were told that the shopkeeper bought the bicycle from a teenager.
That is when Huraira’s family members informed the police. Later on Sunday night, the police started investigating the matter. At one stage of the investigation, five juveniles were detained and interrogated. Then they admitted that Huraira was killed to snatch the bicycle. They are the ones who committed this murder.
Citing the initial confession of the detainees, the police said the five teenagers called Huraira to the bamboo garden to feed him during tiffin at school on Sunday. Later that afternoon, they killed him by strangulation and snatched his bicycle. Later, one of the killers took the bicycle to Dakumara haat and sold it for Tk 2,700.
Officers-in-charge (OC) of Shibganj police station Munjurul Alam said that Huraira’s body was recovered based on the confession of the five arrestees. The detainees confessed to the murder during primary interrogation. A case is under process at the police station.
