RAB has arrested a convict named Nazmul Huda, who was sentenced to death in the war crimes tribunal.
He was arrested from a house in the Malgram area of Bogura town on Monday evening. He was hiding in the house.
The arrestee, Nazmul, 72, son of late Roich Uddin, is a resident of Shantiram village, Sundarganj, Gaibandha. However, he lived temporarily in the Khortoil Paschimpara area of Kazipara Road, Tongi, Gazipur.
He was arrested in a joint operation of RAB-12 of Bogura and RAB-2 of Dhaka.
Bogura RAB Camp Squad Commander (Senior Assistant Superintendent of Police) Nazrul Islam confirmed this information.
He said that Nazmul was directly involved in kidnapping, murder, rape, and other crimes against humanity. He was a member of the Razakar. He was also an active member of Jamaat-e-Islami during the war.
On October 24, 2014, a case was filed against him under the International Criminal Tribunal-1 (Bangladesh). Later on November 22, 2017, he was sentenced to death by the court verdict. Since then, he has been absconding.
He was arrested based on secret information. Such operations will continue and will be intensified in the future, RAB official Nazrul Islam added.
