Election Commissioner Begum Rasheda Sultana said that there will be no CC cameras in the by-polls of the country’s five constituencies due to a lack of budget.
She stated this during an exchange of views with the presiding officers of Bogura-6 (Sadar) and Bogura-4 (Kahalu-Nandigram) by-polls on Tuesday around noon.
She said, “This time, we don’t have enough budgets. Therefore, there are no CC cameras in the polling stations. Also, there is no obligation to install CC cameras; there is no law in this regard either. Many untoward incidents allegedly happened in the polling stations. CCTV cameras were installed to see what would happen in the polling stations. But there are no CC cameras in these by-polls. Later, whether CC cameras cover any elections will depend on time and budget.”
The by-polls are scheduled to be held on February 1 in the five vacant parliamentary seats due to the BNP MPs’ resignation.
