Gas prices rise up to 179% for industries

Metropolis Report-

The government raised gas prices for the power, industry, and commercial (hotel and restaurant) sectors by up to 179% a few days after raising electricity prices.

The government had earlier announced a retail price hike for power of 5% to Tk7.48 per kilowatt hour.

The most recent change increased the cost of gas used for electricity generation from the current Tk5.02 to Tk14 (179% spike). 

Additionally, the price of gas for captive power plants increased from Tk16 to Tk30 (88% increase). The price for major industries is increasing by 150%, from Tk11.98 to Tk30.

The price for medium-sized industries has increased by 155%, from Tk11.78 to Tk30. The new gas price for hotels, restaurants and other commercial establishments has increased by 14% to Tk30.50 per cubic meter from the previous Tk26.64.

According to a gazette notification published on Wednesday by the Ministry of Power, Energy, and Mineral Resources, the new price will take effect on February 1st (18 January).
