The Indian government asked Twitter and YouTube to remove links to the BBC documentary “India: The Modi Question.”
According to the sources, YouTube was given instructions by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting to restrict a number of videos that contained the first episode of the aforementioned documentary.
Additionally, Twitter was instructed to block more than 50 tweets that contained links to these YouTube videos.
According to reports, the Ministry has blocked the videos and tweets using the emergency powers provided under the IT Rules, 2021.
The sources added that senior officials from several ministries, including the Ministry of External Affairs, Home Affairs, and I&B, had examined the documentary and found it to be an attempt to cast doubt on the legitimacy and authority of the Supreme Court of India, sow discord among various communities, and make unproven claims about the actions of foreign governments in India.
They said that both YouTube and Twitter had taken action.
