Three Iranian women journalists have been detained over the previous two days and transferred to the Evin prison, according to the AFP news and local media.
Melika Hashemi, Saideh Shafiei, and Mehrnoush Zarei are the journalists who have been detained, according to the Tehran journalists’ union.
Since the beginning of the anti-government demonstrations in September, which were spurred by the murder of Iranian Kurdish woman Mahsa Amini while she was being held by the country’s morality police for wearing her hijab inappropriately, some 80 journalists have been detained.
According to a report by the Follow-Up Committee on Detainees’ Fate, a group of independent Iranian activists, at least 16 males imprisoned by Iranian security forces died as a result of torture while in the care of police or security services, The New Arab reported.
The families who identified their deceased relatives allegedly found signs of torture on their bodies. The family also said they were under pressure to claim their loved ones committed suicide or died in an accident.
Since the beginning of the protests in Iran, almost 500 protestors have died, and about 20,000 have been detained.
