In connection with Ekushey Padak winning photojournalist Aftab Ahmed murder case, police today arrested Raju Munshi, who had been given the death penalty, from Shalgram, Dinajpur.
The Anti-Terrorism Unit (ATU) of Bangladesh police conducted a raid in the early hours of today on the frontier of Shalgram, Phulbari, Dinajpur. It detained Raju Munshi, 25, son of Narej Master, village Bajita, Mirzaganj, Patuakhali.
At a press conference held at ATU’s Baridhara office today, police confirmed the news. The convict had been absconding.
On December 24, 2013, Raju Munshi and his companions strangled Aftab Ahmed, 78, to death in his Rampura home. Aftab’s son Manwara Ahmed Sagor filed a murder complaint with Rampura Thana against Raju and others, according to police.
On March 28, 2017, a prompt tribunal sentenced five people, including Raju, to death.
Billal Hossain Kislu, Habib Hawlader, Raju Munshi, Russell, and car driver Humayun Kabir Mollah were the five men sentenced to death.
On October 12, 2022, the High Court affirmed the lower court’s decision.
