The Guardian Footballer of the Year shortlist is announced at the end of the year. They published the list of the top 100 footballers yesterday. Messi has become number one, according to the judges.
Messi received 76 percent of the judges’ votes, while Kylian Mbappe received 13 percent.
Karim Benzema got 10 percent of the votes. Last year, Robert Lewandowski was number one with 53 percent of the votes.
The Guardian has been compiling this list for nearly a decade, with Messi never missing out on the top three. He has consistently retained his position.
