Four non-resident Ambassadors accredited to Bangladesh Federico Salas Lofte, Ambassador of Mexico, Alejandro Simancas Marin, Ambassador of Cuba, Sinisa Pavic, Ambassador of Serbia and Menzie Sipho DLAMINI, High Commissioner of the Kingdom of Eswatini jointly called on Foreign Secretary (senior Secretary) Masud Bin Momen at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs following presentation of their Letter of Credence to the President of Bangladesh at Bangabhaban in Dhaka.
Foreign Secretary congratulated the non-resident Ambassadors for presenting credentials. He expressed hope that they will now be able to contribute to deepening ties with Bangladesh in bilateral, regional and multilateral fronts. “Bangladesh traditionally exports RMG (contributes 84% of export), quality jute and jute products, ceramics, pharmaceuticals, frozen fish, light engineering, leather & leather goods to Europe, the USA and other destinations and is able to cater to these countries as per local requirements,” he added.
Foreign Secretary highlighted the remarkable role that our expatriates’ community is playing by sending their hard earned money for rolling the wheel of our economy and to meet up the import payment. “Leather, footwear, Pharmaceuticals’, light-engineering, food processing and IT can be other prospective areas of collaboration for mutual benefit of the people of these countries,” he said.
Foreign Secretary further highlighted that the Government of Bangladesh under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has proclaimed Vision 2041 for translating the country to a self-reliant, prosperous, equity-based and developed country by 2041. “The Government has introduced policies for inclusive economic growth for achieving a prosperous and modern Bangladesh, as envisioned by the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman,” he added.
The Foreign Secretary also informed in this vein that more and more women and youth are being engaged in income generation sectors. “The Government has also introduced a wide range of welfare and safety net programmes. Special programmes have been undertaken for marginalized women and aged citizens. Under the leadership of Hon’ble Prime Minister, Sheikh Hasina, Bangladesh today is recognized globally as a role model for development. In the Asia Pacific region Bangladesh is among the topmost countries in terms of rate of economic growth, despite the Covid pandemic,” he said.
Foreign Secretary welcomes the maiden visit of the Mexican Foreign Minister to Dhaka on 7-9 March 2023 when the reopening of the Argentine mission in Dhaka is likely to be announced.
