Bangladesh’s president-elect was announced to be Mohammed Shahabuddin, a retired judge and former commissioner of the Anti-Corruption Commission.
Shahabuddin, the nominee of the ruling party, was chosen without any opposition, Chief Election Commissioner Kazi Habibul Awal said to reporters at the Election Commission. The commission will today issue a notification in this regard.
On April 24, current President Abdul Hamid’s term will come to an end. The presidential election must be held 60 to 90 days prior to the conclusion of each five-year term, as required by Article 123 of the constitution.
