Md. Abdullah, a college student, shot during the Anti-discrimination Student Movement demonstrations on August 5 and died in a Dhaka hospital.
According to Abdullah’s father, Abdul Jabbar, he passed away at 7:30 a.m. on Thursday while receiving treatment at the Dhaka Combined Military Hospital.
The 23-year-old attended Government Shahid Suhrawardy College to study political science. His family is from Benapole, Jashore.
He had surgery at CMH on October 10th, according to Jabbar. “The operation went well. My son was walking with me a few days after the surgery. We shared a meal. Then, about 20–22 days ago, he fell ill again. He left for good this morning.
Sub-Inspector Moniruzzaman of the Cantonment Police Station removed Abdullah’s body from the CMH and took it to Suhrawardy Hospital for an autopsy.
After the autopsy, Abdullah’s father said, “We are bathing him in Mohammadpur.” We will take him to his college for funeral prayers. After Maghrib prayers at the Shaheed Minar, we will return him to our village home. There, he will be buried.
Suhrawardy College computer operator Shariful Islam stated, “We have informed all instructors and students of Abdullah’s passing. He will have funeral prayers at the Central Shaheed Minar following Maghrib prayers and on the college campus following Asr prayers.
“Md. Abdullah, who was shot during the Anti-discrimination Student Movement, has been martyred,” stated Tahmid Al Muddassir Chowdhury, a convener of the movement. A large number of members of the Anti-discrimination Student Movement will attend the funeral prayers following Maghrib.
Abdullah actively participated in the anti-quota protests that began in July and eventually developed into a movement that toppled Sheikh Hasina’s Awami League government.
Abdullah was shot in the head outside the Bangshal Police Station in Dhaka’s Tantibazar intersection on August 5, the day Hasina left the country for India.
Before being transported to Mitford Hospital and then Dhaka Medical College Hospital, he lay on the road for two to three hours.
Doctors said he was healthy after an operation that evening. A few days after his release, his family brought him home.
His condition worsened, leading to another admission to DMCH. They then moved him to the CMH on August 22 for more advanced care. He also had surgery there, where he passed away.
