Advisor Asif Mahmud Suspects ‘Sabotage’ Behind Secretariat Fire

Advisor Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuyain believes that the massive fire that broke out at the Secretariat, the main administrative center of Bangladesh, may be an act of “sabotage” meant to “derail the interim government.”

The advisor for local government and labor warned that those who engage in this kind of “sabotage” would not escape punishment.
“We have been addressing corruption and embezzlement at the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development, and Co-operatives during the previous administration. “We discovered evidence of billions of taka being embezzled,” the advisor wrote in a Facebook post on Thursday.

We have not yet determined the extent of the fire’s damage. We will not spare those who are complicit in the plot to derail us.

At approximately 1:52 a.m. on Thursday, a large fire started in Building No. 7 of the Secretariat overnight. At 8:05 a.m., nineteen fire departments worked to contain the fire, and at approximately 11:45 a.m., they completely extinguished it.

While trying to connect a water hose while crossing the street during the operation, firefighter Md. Soanur Zaman Nayan was struck by a truck and suffered serious injuries. After that, the truck hurried away. Later, in the hospital, he passed away.

Asif, the Ministry of Local Government Rural Development and Co-operatives advisor, stated, “At the moment, I am in Nilphamari. I will return to Dhaka as quickly as possible.

All of advisor Asif’s events in North Bengal until Sunday have been postponed because of “unavoidable circumstances,” according to ministry spokesman Salah Uddin.
