The metro rail authorities tested the trains on the Agargaon-Motijheel line on Friday. The test run was officially launched from Agargaon station by Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader.
The Uttara-Agargaon segment of MRT Line-6, the nation’s first metro-rail line, was inaugurated in December of last year.
Since then, as the main catchment region extends via Mirpur to Motijheel, the need for the Agargaon-Motijheel stretch has increased.
At that time, it was announced that the Motijheel-Kamalapur segment would open in June 2025, and the Agargaon-Motijheel part would open in December.
However, at a program on June 18, Quader stated that the prime minister will officially open the Agargaon-Motijheel segment in October.
According to the DMTCL monthly progress report, up until June of this year, the segment made 95.20 percent of its progress.
The government is moving quickly to complete the 21.26 km (17 stations) of elevated metro construction from Uttara to Kamalapur. The project would cost Tk 33,472 crore.
