Airstrikes Target South Beirut Following Israeli Military Evacuation Order

Less than an hour after the Israeli military ordered residents to evacuate a portion of the Lebanese capital, attacks occurred in south Beirut on Wednesday, according to an AFP journalist.

Israeli military spokesman Avichay Adraee ordered people to evacuate the area after the first strike, which caused black smoke to billow from between buildings in Haret Hreik.

Moments later, an AFP journalist observed a second strike in south Beirut.

Adraee addressed the people of Haret Hreik in Arabic on X prior to the strikes, saying, “The IDF (Israeli military) will work against Hezbollah-affiliated facilities and interests in the near future.”

In recent weeks, the Israeli military has killed people in other parts of the capital and throughout Lebanon, and it has bombarded south Beirut on numerous occasions.

An AFP analysis of Lebanese health ministry data indicates that Israel escalated its bombing last month, killing at least 1,356 people in Lebanon, though the actual number is probably higher.
