For the city corporation elections in Gazipur, Sylhet, Khulna, Rajshahi, and Barishal, the ruling Awami League has nominated its candidates for mayor.
Abul Khayer Abdullah from Barishal, Ajmatullah Khan from Gazipur, Khairuzzaman Liton from Rajshahi, Talukder Abdul Khalek from Khulna, and Anwaruzzaman Chowdhury from Sylhet are the AL nominees.
AHM Khairuzzaman Liton in Rajshahi and Talukder Abdul Khaleque in Khulna are the two incumbent mayors, although the ruling party fielded three new candidates this time around.
During the Local Government Nomination Board meeting, which was presided over by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader made the news at a press conference outside the Gono Bhaban.
On April 3, the Election Commission released the dates for five city corporation elections. On May 25, in Gazipur; on June 12, in Khulna and Barishal; and on June 2, in Rajshahi and Sylhet, elections will take place.
