Masud Bin Momen, who was appointed during the Sheikh Hasina administration, has had his contractual appointment revoked by the interim government, and Md Jashim Uddin has been named the new foreign secretary.

Since September 2022, Jashim has represented Bangladesh in China as its ambassador.

On Sunday, the newly appointed foreign secretary began his new duties by attending an afternoon meeting with ministry officials.

Jashim is an officer from the 13th BCS foreign cadre. He was Bangladesh’s ambassador to Greece and Qatar before that. He has held a number of positions in Washington, DC, Islamabad, Tokyo, and New Delhi during his diplomatic career.

In addition, he has had a number of positions, such as director general of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ East Asia and Pacific Division and South Asia Division.

Jashim obtained graduation and postgraduate degrees in international relations from Dhaka University and went on to Leeds University in England to finish a postgraduate degree in modern international studies.

He finished the NDC program at the National Defence College in Dhaka in 2014.

Under Jashim’s direction, the Bangladesh Embassy in Athens won the 2018 Public Administration Award for improving consular services.

Since assuming office on August 5, the temporary government that replaced Hasina’s government has replaced or moved a number of officials inside the administration and at foreign embassies. Reorganizations and modifications have also occurred at the highest echelons of significant constitutional and governmental establishments within the nation.
