The mixed album of Bangladeshi singer-songwriter Armeen Musa and her mother, renowned Nazrul Sangeet artiste Dr. Nashid Kamal, has been nominated for the Best Global Music Album category at the 65th Annual Grammy Awards.

The mother-daughter duo became the first-ever Bangladeshis nominated for the world’s most prestigious music award for the song ‘Jaago Piya’ from Berklee Indian Ensemble’s ‘Shuruaat’ album.

Armeen’s song titled ‘Jaago Piya’ was written by her mother, Nashid Kamal, and was composed and voiced by the singer Armeen herself.

Berklee Indian Ensemble’s debut album ‘Shuruaat’ featured songs by Armeen Musa and Asian musicians, including legendary Ustad Zakir Hossain, Shreya Ghoshal, Shankar Mahadevan, and Vijay Prakash.

Armeen Musa, a Berklee College of Music student and Visva-Bharati trainee in Indian classical music, won critical acclaim for several songs, including ‘Bhromor Koiyo Giya,’ ‘Lona Deyal.’

Nashid Kamal is the elder granddaughter of prominent Bengali folk singer Abbasuddin Ahmed. She has been associated with music dexterously for over four decades. Alongside a Nazrul Sangeet artiste, Professor Dr. Nashid Kamal is widely known as a noted researcher of Bengali folk songs.
