Armed forces personnel will be stationed all over the nation from tomorrow until January 10 to support local civil administrations in conducting the January 7 national election in a free, fair, and orderly manner.
To maintain peace and maintain law and order before, during, and after the voting day, the forces will support the Election Commission and the local civil administration through January 10, according to a press release issued today by Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR). The release stated that the armed forces have been brought into action “In Aid to the Civil Power,” by Article 126 of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh Constitution.
It stated that in each district, upazila, and metropolitan area, military personnel will be stationed at strategic locations and other easily accessible locations.
The Bangladesh Navy will serve in 19 upazilas, including the coastal districts of Bhola and Barguna, while the army will be stationed in 62 districts, according to the release.
In 45 upazilas near borders, Bangladesh’s Border Guard will be staffed. The statement also stated that the army will collaborate with the Coast Guard in four coastal upazilas and the BGB in 47 bordering upazilas to carry out joint operations.
In addition, the media release stated that the Bangladesh Air Force will supply the polling places in isolated hilly areas with essential helicopter support.
The Bangladesh Air Force has also maintained a sufficient number of helicopters on standby to help with any emergencies that may arise during the election.
Moreover, a joint coordination cell comprising representatives from various ministries, divisions, and law enforcement agencies has been established at the Armed Forces Division. This cell is operational until January 10.
The statement went on to say that the armed forces have made every effort to ensure that they will be there to support law and order and maintain peace during the election.
