Army Seizes Massive Arms Cache in Raid on KNF Hideout in Bandarban

After breaking into a hideout of the separatist organisation Kuki-Chin National Front (KNF), also referred to as the Bawm party, in the Chattogram Hill Tracts, the Bangladesh Army retrieved a sizable cache of weapons and ammunition.

The Inter-Service Public Relations (ISPR) said in a statement on Thursday that the army carried out the raid in a secluded area of Bandarban’s Ruma Upazila.

The ISPR did not, however, offer any additional information regarding the operation.

In response to reports of increasing violence, the KNF was the target of a joint operation in the isolated Chattogram Hill Tracts for a year until October 2023.

Following the operation, there was a brief pause in violence while the group and the authorities held negotiations.

The calm, however, was short-lived as the government resumed the crackdown in early April after KNF members committed bold bank robberies.

Since then, authorities have arrested dozens of members of the ethnic Bawm community and several members of the separatist group.
