According to a media report, an Australian real estate agent has been reprimanded for sending a racist email to a former Indian tenant. In it, she criticized the Indians’ hygiene practices and expressed her optimism that their immigration would prevent Australia from becoming “the filth that is India.”
After Sandeep Kumar protested a cleaning bill deduction from his security deposit, the email was issued to him in May 2021, according to news.com.au, an Australian website.
Director of Mavin Real Estate Bronwyn Pollitt compared the quality of life and living conditions in Australia to what she called the “overcrowded, overpopulated, dirty squaller” of several nations, notably India, in the email.
She expressed her wish that Indian immigrants will prevent Australia from becoming “the filth that is India” in the letter.
The email was presented to the State Administrative Tribunal in Western Australia, which determined that Pollitt was unqualified to have a real estate and business agents license for eight months starting on September 1.
“I as a white Australian believe you and the others come to Australia as you want to enjoy the lovely way of life we enjoy,” Pollitt wrote in the email. No overpopulation, clean, fresh air, jobs, or social assistance if you are unable to find employment.
“It all starts with cleaning the rental properties, though, and being mindful of what you have left, knowing the same thing as India will become Perth if you do not make attitude changes.” Later, Pollitt sent Kumar an email to apologize and state that she did not mean to be racist.
She said, “First off, I apologize if you feel I was being racist toward you. I never intended to do that. According to testimony given at the tribunal, the Covid-19 outbreak, legislative changes, and a spike in rental disputes put Pollitt under a lot of pressure at the time.
Suresh Rajan, an ethnic community advocate, demanded a police investigation into the incident, calling it one of the worst instances of overt racism he has witnessed in recent memory and asserting that it violated the criminal code’s anti-racial vilification laws.
