The Electric Toll Collection System (ETCS), often known as automatic toll collection from moving cars, has officially begun a trial run at the Padma Bridge.
This trial toll collection began at one kiosk at either end of the Padma Bridge at 10:30 am utilizing the RFID method.
A camera will detect any registered car in front of the toll plaza, and the toll will be automatically collected. The automatic barrier will be raised and the remaining amount will be shown on the screen once the required toll has been paid.
This morning, Md. Manjur Hossain, secretary of the Bridges Division, began the experimental program.
“This program officially launched on a trial basis on Wednesday morning. The Padma Bridge toll collection process will become quicker and simpler as a result. This toll-collection program will continue for the time being on a trial basis. There will be a registration booth for the smart toll system. Anyone interested in signing up may do so right here.
There will be a touch booth, he added. Anyone who has a card is welcome to utilize it. There are cash and debit card facilities at every booth.
According to Road, Transport, and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader today, the Padma Bridge toll has been collected for more than Tk 660.24 crore as of April 25.
He also noted that 77,529 motorcycles traveled across the bridge between April 22 and April 26, during which time Tk 77,52,900 in tolls were collected. He made these remarks during a meeting with the Secretariat’s Bridges Division officials to discuss opinions.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is slated to dedicate the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Tunnel under the Karnaphuli River in September, according to Quader.
In order to ensure a smooth voyage for passengers, he also urged the appropriate authorities to take action in advance while taking into account the cattle market, the movement of vehicles carrying livestock, and rain.
The conference, which was presided over by Md. Manjur Hossain, Secretary of the Bridges Division, also included Kazi M. Ferdous, Chief Engineer of the Bangladesh Bridge Authority, Project Directors of various Projects, and High Officials Concerned.
