The Karnaphuli River’s Bangabandhu Tunnel might open to traffic in September of this year. Following a discussion with representatives of the Bridges Division at the capital’s Setu Bhaban today, Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader informed the media of the development.
The primary tunnel is 3.32 kilometers long and is being built between 18 and 31 meters below the Karnaphuli. The two tubes, each with four lanes, are 2.45 kilometers long. At the western and eastern ends of the primary tunnel, there will be 5.35 km of connecting highways, and the Anwara end will include a 727 m flyover.
The project’s term was prolonged in the most recent modification until December 30, 2023, and the cost rose by Tk 164 crore.
